101 ways to get involved with LWVDC

Send us a note if you’re keen to do one or more of these ideas.  I’ll happily give you more information and very much appreciate your willingness to help our chapter get off to a rip-roaring start this year.  These suggestions for involvement are not in any order of priority so read through and find the right one for you.

  1. Tutor our volunteer DC Voter newsletter editor on using a Word template for layout.
  2. Be our point person with our coalition partner: DC Fair Budget.
  3. Be our point person with our coalition partner:  DC Fair Elections.
  4. Be our point person with our coalition partner: Put a Price on it DC.
  5. Develop database for petition signers supporting DC statehood.
  6. Be our point person with our coalition partner: DC Statehood Coalition.
  7. Be our point person with our coalition partner: CNHED - coalition for nonprofit housing and economic development.
  8. Be or find our pro-bono CPA.
  9. Be or find our pro-bono legal counsel.
  10. Serve on the budget committee.
  11. Serve on our Development committee.
  12. Be our assistant treasurer.
  13. Develop a database of places of worship for voter registration outreach.
  14. Compose a letter to co-op and condo associations to advertise our election supervision services (an important fundraiser for us).
  15. Develop the database of coops, condos and organizations that might need our election supervision services.
  16. Dnd a speaker to enlighten us on Rank Choice Voting.
  17. Chair a speaker event.
  18. Find a speaker on the importance of the upcoming Census.
  19. Find a speaker on the pros and cons of lowering the voting age to 16.
  20. Find a speaker on the issues around a Constitutional Convention.
  21. Help us create a new format for our Annual Meeting for April 2019.
  22. Participate in a voter registration event at a farmers’ market.
  23. Participate in a voter registration event at a high school.
  24. Join the Health committee and study a topic of interest to the group.
  25. Register voters at one of the monthly naturalization ceremonies.
  26. Attend a LWVDC small group event.
  27. Organize a LWVDC happy hour. 
  28. Start a student mini-unit of the League at a local university.
  29. Help facilitate a LWVDC after-school club at a local high school.
  30. Sign up a new member.
  31. Join our Full Rights for DC Citizens committee.
  32. Participate in a voter registration event at a local university.
  33. Help write and edit Know Your DC booklet.
  34. Join our Social Media Team on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram.
  35. Write an article for our DC Voter quarterly newsletter.
  36. Write an article for our webpage.
  37. Join our Website Team.
  38. Attend a NCA event.
  39. Participate in the national convention in Chicago in June 2018.
  40. Design a membership flyer.
  41. Join the Centennial Celebration committee.
  42. Research possible LWVDC office locations.
  43. Be our Press Manager.
  44. Come to an event and bring a friend.
  45. Help get VOTE411 PSA announcements in theatre programs.
  46. Join the team for the Candidate Forum taking place in September.
  47. Participate in a voter registration drive at a local vocational school.
  48. Develop the list of vocational schools in DC. 
  49. Help edit the DC Voter.
  50. Figure out a way to get vote411.org coffee cuffs at Starbucks and/or other coffee shops.
  51. If you work for a law firm, please get us the contact info for your CSR leader.
  52. Connect us to the CSR leader in your workplace.
  53.  Host a luncheon party to tell your friends about the work of LWVDC.
  54.  Make sure our local real estate agents give their clients voter registration materials.

  56. Be our “Good and Welfare” correspondent - send get well cards, congratulatory notes ,as needed, etc.
  57. Be a buddy for a new member.
  58. Help us find the right item to wear to identify our voter registration team - a hat, visor, t-shirt, sports pinnie?
  59. Help us find funding for our voter registration team identifying apparel item.
  60. Join our membership team.
  61. Join the voter services team.
  62. Give a student membership.
  63. Make your next birthday gift a membership to our League.
  64. Give your partner a membership in our League (remember the League is not for women only:-)
  65. Research opportunities for grant money.
  66. Host a dinner party to tell your friends about the work of the LWVDC.
  67. Put a notice about vote411.org in your neighborhood list-serve.
  68. Put up a notice on your workplace bulletin board about vote411.org.
  69. Welcome a new neighbor with a voter registration form and news about LWVDC.
  70. Put an Equality for DC sign in your yard.
  71. Put an Equality for DC sign in your window.
  72. Tell your friends around the country to support Equality for DC.
  73. Find out who to contact about doing a voter registration event at Nats Stadium.
  74. Find out who to contact about getting a PSA poster in Metro stations and on trains and busses.
  75. Host a cocktail party to tell your friends about the work of LWVDC.
  76. Put up a notice about vote411.org at your place of worship.
  77. Ask your place of worship to include voter registration information in the new member welcome packet.
  78. Research who to contact at Pepco about putting vote411.org info in their bills.
  79. Find the contact person at the Washington Post for a PSA for vote411.org.
  80. Help a neighbor get to the polls on election day.
  81. Put a notice about vote411.org in your child’s PTA bulletin.
  82. Give LWVDC membership as a holiday gift.
  83. Give yourself a tax gift - donate to LWVDC.
  84. Post a photo of yourself at a LWVDC event on Facebook. Link to us @LeagueofWomenVotersDC.
  85. Post a photo of yourself at a LWVDC event on Instagram. Link to us @LWVDC.
  86. Tweet while you’re attending a LWV event.
  87. Research possible venues for small group events.
  88. Alert us to possible voter registration opportunities all around town.
  89. Work with our Fair Elections team as this new program is implemented by the city leadership.
  90. Go to an ANC meeting and let your neighborhood leaders know about the work of the LWV
  91. Be a buddy for one of our senior members; help her attend an event.
  92. Capture an oral (or other format) history of one of long-standing members.
  93. Tell us what issue you see in our city that you’re keen to learn more about.
  94. Research how to add LWV to the “extra round-up charge” on Lyft.
  95. Research how to ask Uber to offer free rides to the polls.
  96. Research how to ask Lyft to offer free rides to the polls.
  97. Help us get a PSA for vote411.org in Washingtonian Magazine.
  98. Help us get a PSA for vote411.org in neighborhood newspapers.
  99. Purchase one or more of our Equality for DC posters.
  100. Design LWVDC holiday and/or note cards.
