Sheila Willet Distinguished Service Award
The Willet Award is presented at the Annual Business Meeting in April to an LWVDC member who has demonstrated long-term dedication to the League’s mission and active support of its activities, or has seen to fruition a significant initiative that contributes to the mission of the League.
This Award is named for Sheila Willet, the long-time office manager and member of LWVDC, who exemplified this dedication. (Historical note: This award has also been referred to as the President’s Award.)
Linda Beebe Award for Making Democracy Work
The Beebe Award is presented at the Annual Business Meeting in April to an exceptional individual and/or organization that works to improve democracy within Washington, DC.
Named for Linda Beebe, President of the LWVDC from 2015-2018, to honor her dedication to the League’s mission of engaging and educating voters, improving elections, and defending democracy within the District of Columbia.
The award honors Linda Beebe by formally recognizing individuals and/or organizations that are actively engaged in keeping our city strong, fair, vibrant and livable. Awardees shall have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to making democracy work within one or more of the following areas of work:
Expanding voting rights for DC residents
Increasing local autonomy of the DC government
Improving DC elections
Engaging and educating DC voters
Candidates for elected office and their staff actively engaged in an election campaign are not eligible for this award.
League members may be considered for this Award.
