In 2026, ranked choice voting will be introduced, which will allow D.C. voters to rank up to 5 candidates according to their preferences in each election (other than for political party offices).Join us for an informative presentation on RCV and how it will work for D.C. voters and candidates in 2026 elections. Presenters Kenyatta Smith, Engagement & Outreach Director, Grow Democracy DC, and Brandon Bush, Engagement Coordinator, will cover how RCV will work for voters and candidates in the 2026 Primary and General Elections and conduct a mock ballot, followed by time for Q&A. We will coordinate with GDDC on a follow-up “train the trainers” session for Leaguers interested in presenting to community groups.

Be part of choosing the LWVUS program of advocacy and education for 2026-28. Leagues across the nation will be engaging in this biennial precess in which we get collective agreement around how we will move our mission forward for the next two years. If you have national issues that you want the League to take action on—or if you just want to learn more--this is for you. In a nutshell--Program Planning is the grassroots process that LWVUS uses to achieve member agreement on how LWV will move its mission forward over the next two years. Our program is the education and advocacy platform that League delegates adopt at each biennial national League convention. This year’s convention will be held in Columbus, Ohio, in June. Leagues participate in national program at the state and local level. Leagues advocate on issues important in their communities.
U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
Tue, Feb 10, 2026 at 8:30 AM
The DC District Court has invited LWVDC to come and register new voters at the 2026 Naturalization Ceremonies. The ceremonies are planned to take place on the second Tuesday of each month in the District Court Courthouse. Our continuing success at these events depends on you! We need volunteers, every month, to carry out our mission. The ceremonies will continue to be held at the US District Court Courthouse, at 333 Constitution Ave NW. We will have the opportunity to interact with 100 to 125 new citizens every month. If you speak a foreign language—Spanish, French, Amharic, Korean, Chinese, or others—even better to help explain what we do, and how to register, to non-native speakers. You needn’t volunteer every month, but a big pool will enable us to cover the monthly ceremonies. With your support we can help our newest citizens become responsible voters.

U.S. District Court for District of Columbia, 6th Floor, Judges' Dining Room
Tue, May 12, 2026 at 8:30 AM
Amid today’s challenges and uncertainty, here is a chance to create a warm and welcoming space for those who have worked tirelessly to become U.S. citizens. On May 12, LWVDC will sponsor the naturalization reception at the District Courthouse, and we need six volunteers to help make it a success. Volunteers will: greet new citizens and guide them to the reception area; oversee the event; and assist with clean-up. The time commitment is 8:30 am – 12:00 noon. Please note this is separate from our incredible team registering new voters. Join us in affirming that the U.S. opens its doors and heart to new citizens from around the world. To volunteer, please click the REGISTER button. For more information or questions, contact Ann Castiglione Cataldo at naturalizations@lwvdc.org.
