Joining the League of Women Voters is a great way to get involved in your community and play an active role in our democracy.
The League of Women Voters is the organization where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement. Our volunteers work year round to register new voters, host community forums and debates, and provide voters with election information they need.
We need to fight against voter suppression, hatred, bigotry, and other incursions on the democratic principles of our country. With your membership, you enable the League of Women Voters to:
- address challenges to voter access to the polls and fight voter suppression;
- reform election laws so as to combat the undue influence of money in elections;
- stand up for DC Statehood;
- protect the environment;
- support access to health care and affordable housing; and
- strengthen gun safety.
This work is more needed than ever before. By becoming a member, you help the League encourage informed and active participation in government, increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.
Your membership and support are vital. Together we can make democracy work.
WHO CAN JOIN?
Membership in the League of Women Voters is open to anyone 16 years or older.
WHAT MEMBERS DO:
- ACT as a force to create positive and lasting change in our communities.
- EMPOWER millions of voters to protect their right to vote.
- EDUCATE and foster civil dialogue on important issues.
- WORK to ensure that ALL votes are counted.
- FIGHT for voting rights and local autonomy.
Since 1920, individuals like you have shaped the issues that impact our communities and our democracy through their connection to the League. Our grassroots, nonpartisan network is one of the nation's most trusted institutions. We keep our communities fair, vibrant, and strong.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
It’s up to you! Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or listening to a panel of experts at a meeting or just reading about them in one of our publications.
WHAT YOU GET WITH MEMBERSHIP?
In addition to supporting the national League, you will become an LWVDC (state/local league) member, which has many privileges. You can learn about local politics, meet face to face with your local representative, and get invaluable experience in the political arena. In addition, any League member gets to vote on the focus areas of the local, regional, and national Leagues. Therefore, by being a member of a state or local League you actually get to influence the work of a powerful, national organization.
Stay current with League activities. As a member, you will receive the LWVUS and LWVDC newsletters by email. You will also receive email updates, including league news, calls to action, and volunteer opportunities (some of which are open only to active members).
RENEWAL
30 days before your membership expires, you will receive an email from LWVUS inviting you to renew. You're welcome to renew at any time, but if you want to get the most for your dues, please renew close to your expiration date. If you are currently a member, you can view your expiration date (and edit your profile) by going to theLWV Member Portal .
NOT A DC RESIDENT?
