The League of Women Voters is getting our day at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, March 26.
That’s when our case, Rucho v. League of Women Voters of North Carolina, will be heard with two other gerrymandering cases from North Carolina and Maryland. The combination of the two cases from NC and the addition of the MD case, Benisek v. Lamone, is significant because the court will review multiple partisan gerrymanders designed by a Republican majority legislature and a Democratic majority legislature.
These arguments will grant the court a level playing field of cases to use and if the court establishes a standard to determine when partisan gerrymandering goes too far, regardless of which parties control state legislative bodies. It also provides the U.S. Supreme Court with a menu of options to choose from when establishing a standard for partisan gerrymandering because of complimentary but different legal theories.
The time is now to say enough is enough! RSVP to make your voice heard at the Supreme Court on March 26! LWVUS staff will have branded signs available on site.
See you at the Supreme Court!
