Join the League of Women Voters at the Women's March on Washington
Saturday, January 21st
As women and defenders of our democracy, there is more that unites us than divides us.
We march for voting rights. We march to reform money in politics. We march for health care. We march for the environment.
Assembly: 9:15 am - 9:45 am
We will assemble at the at the corner of C and 4th Streets, SW at 9:15am. We will be moving to the Rally location before 10 am.
Our meeting location is 2 blocks from the official start point and will likely be a meeting point for other organizations. Please give yourself time to find us. Organizers are expecting over 200,000 people (and likely a lot more).
Rally: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
The rally starting location is the intersection of Independence and 3rd Streets, SW. The program features nationally recognized advocates, artists, entertainers, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and others will be announced in the coming days. Check out the list of speakers here.
If you want to join us during the rally, please follow us on Twitter for details on our location. https://twitter.com/LWVDC and https://twitter.com/LWV. We will do the bet we can to provide updates on the rally and our location. You can access our twitter feeds online and don't need a twitter account.
March: 1:15 - 3:00 pm
The march will walk west on Independence, turn north on 14th, west on Constitution, and will end at the intersection of Constitution and 17th.
Federal Center, L'Enfant, and Judiciary Square are the closest metro stops to our gathering point. Go to www.wmata.com to find the best route for you. Make certain you SmarTrip card has plenty of money on it before you head to the mall.
What to Wear & Bring
Wear your LWV buttons & wear red, white, and/or blue.
Signs are encouraged! If you are marching with us, please make certain your signs are not partisan. Stick with messaging that highlight the nature of the march: freedom, equality, women’s rights, inclusivity and unity. Both LWVUS and LWVDC will be bringing signs for volunteers to carry. You will need to be at the assembly at 9:15 to get a sign.
Dress to stay warm and dry. Bring snacks, water, and any medications you will need for the day. Rest Stops at the March: a map can be found here.
What not to bring: If you cannot bring it on an airplane, do not bring it to the march. Anything that looks like, or could be used as a weapon leave at home. Backpacks and bags can be no more than 8"x6"x4". A full list of restricted items can be found at www.womensmarch.com
March for Pizza
If you’re hungry after the event, Pizza Paradiso is supporting the League on the day of the march. The restaurant will be serving beer from Denizens Lowest Lord (a majority women owned brewery). Proceeds from the sale of that beer will be donated to the League of Women Voters. Giving to the League never tasted so good!
Please RSVP at www.womensmarch.com
Help the organizers plan for a successful day - let them know you are going so they have the best estimates for the size of the crowd.
