Volunteers Needed: Election Observing at the DC Jail between June 9-11
About this event
LWVDC volunteers may observe in-person voting at the DC jail from June 9-11. Volunteers do not need any experience observing elections or registering others to vote in order to participate. Volunteers do not have to be present each day of in-person voting, but are asked to commit for at least one entire day between June 9-11.
Election observers must petition the DC BOE for credentials by May 28, 2026, so LWVDC volunteers must sign up by Friday, May 22, 2026 to coordinate credential petitioning. Observers must be approved volunteers of the jail, which will require a separate application process to be completed in advance. LWVDC will work with volunteers in order to complete all applications in time for the election.
Why election observe? To foster public transparency, LWVDC has been invited to observe this process inside of the jail. As election observers, volunteers will quietly observe the voting process, make any noteworthy observations, and contribute to/review a report overviewing the election process after the election.
