Question 1:
Age: 62
Occupation: Retired
Education: B.S Elementary Education, University of the District of Columbia
Qualifications for office sought: I'm running to GET DC Straight: Governance, Employment, & Transparency with Decency & Compassion. I will work to return DC to an era of accountability, financial stability, and honesty. Residents need to trust that government is working for them. My first priority will be to address joblessness. I will build meaningful partnerships between businesses, nonprofits, and government to develop pre-employment training, mentoring programs, and work opportunities. Together, we will GET DC Straight. I have been advocating for District residents for the past 30 years. On April 26, 2011, I ask that you ELECT to have me continue this important work.
Question 2: How to increase tax revenues? The DC Budget for Fiscal Year 2012 will indeed be a considerable challenge. To answer this challenge, I would begin by asking some questions. I'd investigate how DC funds are being spent, especially those from the Lottery, Bags Taxes, etc. I have to review the facts surrounding the current expenditures and current revenue sources before I could make any suggestions/decisions about raising additional money for the city. My main point is that I do not want to raise the taxes on the backs of the citizens without their input and without having the facts about the budget. All things should be on the table before that question can be addressed.
Questions 3: How to reduce spending? To address budget overruns, it would be important for me to get the details of the current expenditures and proposed expenses before making a determination on lowering it and proposing cuts. Everything would be on the table, as I'd insist that unnecessary duplication of services and overlapping agencies, and ineffective programs be considered for cuts.
Questions 4: Will Council salary be your only employment income? Yes.
